April 1, 2026: Join us at Scene By Rhys Fine Art at 1036 Royal Street, New Orleans for a new weekly series of art events at the gallery, as Emilie Rhys (gallery artist/owner) paints oil portraits of people—many of them local musicians. Each session will be announced weekly in the home page pop-up on scenebyrhys.com. The scale of the canvases will range from 24″ x 18″ up to 48″ x 36″. Occasionally even larger canvases will be used.
The artist Emilie Rhys got her start creating portraits in public in 1977, when she set up on the famed cast iron fence of New Orleans’ Jackson Square, St. Ann Street side, to create full-color pastel portraits of passers-by. She toiled there for about six months before leaving New Orleans, not to return to live here till 2011.
