This one-of-a-kind original oil on copper painting was started by New Orleans artist Emilie Rhys on August 11, 2022 at the artist's French Quarter art studio. Using her own photo of the Roots of Music band as the source, she interprets one of many moments of the band during Carnival season on the streets in New Orleans. The Roots of Music is a non-profit after-school music educational program providing school-age kids with marching band instruction and experience, tutoring, mentoring and hot meals. The artist has an ongoing contract with the Roots of Music permitting her to create artworks using the kids images, and in return she pays cash commissions on sales of artworks. This painting is one of many the artist has created since the contract was signed in 2014.
The Roots of Music will receive a cash commission from the sale of this artwork in which band members are depicted.
