Archival Poster: “Brothers In Jazz”

Archival poster print featuring the 2014 oil painting by Emilie Rhys of music enthusiasts Steve Steinberg and Fred Hatfield, created in the artist's French Quarter art studio, combined with text extracted (with permission) from an email written by Mr. Hatfield to the artist in 2015 in tribute to his recently departed friend. Mr. Steinberg had passed away in September 2015.

The original painting is 30" x 40," and was created over the course of seven live portrait sessions, the first on October 15, 2014 and the last on November 28, 2014.

The two gentlemen were well-known beloved characters in music venues with traditional New Orleans Jazz, often wearing matching straw boaters (as seen in the painting) or black bowlers. From the moment they encountered Ms. Rhys drawing at the Spotted Cat early in 2012, they became stalwart supporters of her work and went on to become good friends of both Ms. Rhys and her late husband John Heller.

Mr. Hatfield passed away in October 2016. The original painting was purchased in 2017 by the family of Mr. Steinberg.
