“Hib Sabin Birds—Atelier Still-Life“
14′ x 11″ custom framed original oil painting on wood
Out of stock
This one-of-a-kind original oil on copper painting was created by New Orleans artist Emilie Rhys in 2001 at the artist's Santa Fe, NM art studio. It is painted on a wood panel specially prepared by the artist, using bristle brushes to add a color tone gesso, leaving multi-directional brush strokes on the surface. This enhances the final image by providing randomly-derived surface texture.
Depicted are two wood sculptures by noted Santa Fe artist Hib Sabin, gifts given to Ms. Rhys by her husband John Heller. Behind the bird sculptures is a tall Navajo wedding vase. In this painting Ms. Rhys employed a method of breaking up the background by running energy lines off the objects. Then she painted a few grid structures within some of those shapes. It is part of a large series of artworks she called "Twisted Grids."
The artwork was installed in a vintage wood hand-carved frame which came to the artist from her father Noel Rockmore's studio after his death in 1995.
