36″ x 27″ original oil painting on linen canvas in a custom wood frame

Out of stock

SKU: 2024—Haruka Kikuchi Category:
This one-of-a-kind original oil painting was created by New Orleans artist Emilie Rhys over several years, beginning in 2015 in her French Quarter art studio, and completed there in 2023. Ms. Kikuchi posed multiple times during live portrait sessions at the studio. She is originally from Tokyo, Japan, where she learned to play classic New Orleans "tailgate" style trombone. She moved to New Orleans in 2014, and plays in many bands, some with her husband Yoshitaka "Z2" Tsuji.
The artwork is on a stretched linen canvas surfaced with layers of tissue paper providing a finely wrought visible texture, finished with a brushed/scraped/poured oil ground, applied and fully cured prior to beginning the actual image. Ms. Rhys has been prepping canvases in this unique manner for over forty years, greatly contributing to the richness of the final artwork. The sale included a custom wood frame with an antique warm silver finish.
Ms. Kikuchi received a cash commission from the sale of this artwork in which she is depicted.
