This one-of-a-kind original oil on copper painting was created by New Orleans artist Emilie Rhys on July 5, 2019, during a live portrait session at the artist's French Quarter art studio. It is painted on a copper sheet specially prepared by the artist, using etching tools to incise the surface. This enhances the final image by providing randomly-derived surface texture.
The painting appeared in the 2020-21 exhibit, "New Orleans Music Observed: The Art of Noel Rockmore and Emilie Rhys," and is reproduced on page 185 in the 2021 book of the same name.
Ms. Shabankareh, musician-educator-arts administrator, received a cash commission from the sale of this artwork in which she is depicted.
