This one-of-a kind original oil on canvas painting was painted by New Orleans artist Emilie Rhys in 2019 between March and November, the product of nine live portrait sessions.

Depicted is vocalist, bandleader and educator Quiana Lynell, captured in mid-song. Her dynamism is on full display, as is her charisma and warmth. Ms. Lynell received a cash commission from the sale of this artwork in which she is depicted.

The artwork is painted on a stretched linen canvas surfaced with layers of tissue paper providing a finely wrought visible texture, finished with a brushed/scraped/poured oil ground, applied and fully cured prior to beginning the actual image. Ms. Rhys has been prepping canvases in this unique manner for over forty years, greatly contributing to the richness of the final artwork. The sale included a custom wood frame, 51" x 39". It has a 3" deep scoop profile with a shimmery gold finish.
