#O88co24_Framed painting “CARAVAN” Mahmoud Chouki Album Art
12″ x 12″ original oil painting on copper, in custom wood frame with antique burnished bronze finish, 17.75″ x 17.75″, 2″ wide, 1.5″ deep; with a 1″ white linen liner and gold fillet to match frame (3″ wide including all components).
This one-of-a kind original oil on copper painting was created by New Orleans artist Emilie Rhys during six weeks of daily sessions at her gallery Scene By Rhys Fine Art at 1036 Royal Street. It is the cover art for the new album "CARAVAN: From Marrakech to New Orleans."
It depicts musician Mahmoud Chouki leaning into the classic cast iron railing on the artist's French Quarter art studio balcony with two views in the background. On the left is the natural view from this balcony, showing Orleans Street leading down to the back side of St. Louis Cathedral. On the right is inserted a Moroccan scene, including the minaret of the famed Koutoubia mosque in Marrakech, a request of Mr. Chouki, who hails from Morocco (he moved to New Orleans in 2017).
The artist used as the source a May 29, 2024 photo by graphic designer Zach Boulin that he took of Mr. Chouki. He also designed the layout of the album, shown in the third photo.
