This one-of-a-kind original pencil and ink drawing was created by New Orleans artist Emilie Rhys on March 25, 2018, during a live music performance in the courtyard at Scene By Rhys Fine Art (its former location on Toulouse Street). An afternoon session at the gallery, this was the first time the artist combined two 24" x 18" sheets of paper on her drafting table set up in the courtyard, making for a 24" x 36" finished artwork (joined at the back with archival tape.
Hailing from Lafayette, LA, the Daiquiri Queens are a female-fronted group, led by their two guitarists Ms. Guzman and Ms. McCracken. They bring influences ranging from early-era Cajun standards with haunting vocal harmonies sung in Louisiana French to today's Cajun hits. Depicted in this drawing are (L-R): Tysman Charpentier, fiddle; Chelsea Moosekian, Tit Fer (triangle); John Dowden, accordéon (Cajun accordion); Sabra Guzman, bass; Miriam McCracken, guitar/vocals; and Jamie Lynn Fontenot, guitar/vocals.
The musicians will receive a cash commission from the sale of this artwork in which they are depicted.
