This one-of-a-kind unframed original pencil, ink and watermedia painting was created by New Orleans artist Emilie Rhys on August 13, 2017, during a live music performance at Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro.
Jason Marsalis, vibraphone, is depicted leading his band Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet /The 21st Century Trad Band. This drawing is one of several Rhys artworks illustrating Mr. Marsalis's interview in the book "New Orleans Music Observed: The Art of Noel Rockmore and Emilie Rhys," published in 2021.
While most of the artist's live-music drawings are completed on the spot in the venue, some receive additional work, and in this case the paint was added at the artist's French Quarter art studio.
Mr. Marsalis will receive a cash commission from the sale of this artwork in which he is depicted.
